New Palestine dominates in Home Opener

New Palestine overpowers Yorktown 35–10 behind Davis’ dual-threat brilliance.


Q1

  • The Dragons used explosive plays to seize control of the game. On their first drive, they converted third-and-13 with a 20-yard quarterback draw by Jacob Davis. Two plays later, on second-and-25, Davis connected with Cameron Rollyson for a 44-yard touchdown on a screen pass to put the Dragons on the board.

  • Halfway through the quarter the Dragons strike again. This time Jacob Davis connected with Landon Maddox on a deep ball for a 49-yard TD, giving the Dragons a 14-0 lead.

Q2

The scoring for the Dragons did not happen until the late stages of the second quarter. The defense kept pressure on Yorktown as they sacked the QB three times in the quarter (total of 4 times in the first half). With 2:30 left, on a third and 13 from the Yorktown 43, Evan Walker with a sack forcing the Tigers to punt.

On a fourth and 14 with 31.4 seconds left, Jacob Davis hits Mason Oglesby for a 27 yd gain and sets up the final score of the half.

Jacob Davis used his legs this time to score twice in the second: 1 yd run with 4:34 left and a 2 yd run with 7 seconds left.

Q3

Yorktown received the ball but was quickly shut down by Red Rage defense, resulting in a three-and-out. After the defensive stop, New Palestine capitalized on a short field. Caden Jacobia capped a 40-yard drive with a 12-yard rushing touchdown, pushing the lead to 35–0. With the score margin triggering a running clock, possessions moved quickly. Yorktown struggled to gain traction against the Dragons’ defensive front.

Q4

Yorktown finally got on the board with a 31-yard field goal, trimming the deficit to 35–3. This came after a rare, sustained drive, aided by short passes and a defensive penalty. In the closing moments, Yorktown added a 2-yard touchdown pass making the final score 35–10. The drive was aided by a short field and a couple of quick completions.

That gives the Dragons their first Hoosier Heritage conference win and a 3-0 start. They will be at home again next week to take on Mount Vernon (Fortville, IN).
