The energy inside Fishers’ gym felt different the moment warmups ended — packed stands, shoulder‑to‑shoulder fans, and two top‑three teams stepping into a spotlight they’ve earned. And from the opening tip, the night unfolded like a heavyweight fight built on runs, counters, and big‑time moments.
Fishers Strikes First — Hillsman Sets the Tone
Fishers came out swinging. Before Pike could settle in, the Tigers had built a 9–2 lead, with Ethan Hillsman powering through the lane for five early points. Jean‑Claude L’Homme was everywhere — a steal, two assists, and the kind of early spark that told the crowd Fishers was locked in.
Pike couldn’t find rhythm outside of Landon Lampley, who scored six of their nine first‑quarter points. And when it looked like the quarter would end quietly, Cooper Zachary pulled up from half court and buried a buzzer‑beater that sent the gym into chaos. Fishers led 19–9, and their defense had Pike stuck at 25% shooting.
McGrew Ignites, Zachary Beats the Clock Again
The second quarter belonged to Kai McGrew. Kai McGrew hit a 3-pointer to open the quarter and suddenly Fishers was up 22–9. When Tristan Breland added a layup, the lead ballooned to 26–13.
But Pike punched back. Jabari Miller hit two free throws, Lampley found Isaiah Hill for a dunk, and Landon Lampley muscled in four more points to cap an 8–0 run that cut the deficit to 26–21. Fishers didn’t flinch. They closed the half on a 10–2 burst, and Zachary — because of course he did — drilled another buzzer‑beater, this time from NBA range. Fishers jogged into halftime up 38–23, with McGrew’s 10‑point quarter leading the way.
Third Quarter — Fishers’ Depth Takes Over
If the first half was about stars, the third quarter was about role players stepping into the spotlight. L’Homme scored. Walker scored. Hillsman scored. Fishers’ lead stretched to 20, and then Walker went on a personal 6–0 run that had Pike scrambling. Torey Breland threaded three assists in the quarter, and Hillsman kept cleaning the glass and finishing inside.
Fishers dropped 25 points in the period on absurd efficiency — 6‑for‑8 on twos, 4‑for‑5 from deep. But Pike didn’t fold. TJ Davis hit a three and added late buckets. Miller kept getting to the line. Hill delivered two blocks and a steal. Pike matched Fishers with 22 points in the quarter, keeping the door cracked open heading into the fourth, down 63–45.
Fourth Quarter — Pike Turns Chaos Into Hope
Jeff Teague flipped the switch. Pike went into a pressing, trapping half‑court defense, and suddenly the game changed. Fishers looked rattled. Pike forced 11 turnovers in the quarter — 24 for the game and the Red Devils started to smell blood. After Hillsman hit a three to make it 68–51, Pike erupted. Kenneth Lampley scored five straight. Landon added a transition bucket. The lead shrank to 68–58 — the closest it had been since the opening quarter. Davis drilled a huge three to make it 70–61. Miller and Kenneth Lampley kept attacking the line. The crowd felt the momentum shift. Pike had turned the game into a street fight.
But Fishers found just enough composure. Walker delivered two clutch assists to Hillsman, who finished through contact and steadied the Tigers. The comeback ran out of time, and Fishers escaped with a 76–67 win that felt far closer than the final score.
