Fall Creek Valley Sweeps Crosstown Rivalry at Lawrence Central

The middle‑school basketball scene delivered a charged rivalry night on Tuesday as Fall Creek Valley traveled to Lawrence Central to take on Belzer. The Wildcats controlled the evening from start to finish, earning wins in both the 7th‑ and 8th‑grade matchups.

Webster's 21 Lifts Fall Creek in One-Point Thriller

Belzer opened the game with toughness on the glass, using offensive rebounds from Eddie Wagner and Carter Murdock to jump ahead 4–0. Murdock added another bucket for a 6–3 lead before Fall Creek responded with a 7–0 run sparked by Jeffery Allen’s and‑one finish and a putback that pushed FCV ahead 10–6. Belzer closed the quarter strong, tying the game 10–10 despite both teams struggling from the field.

The second quarter mirrored the first: sloppy early possessions, matching 11‑point outputs, and big shot‑making from both sides. JaKari Webster drilled a three to give FCV a 15–10 lead, but Belzer’s Bryson Wells answered repeatedly. Wells hit three triples in the quarter, including two game‑tying shots at 18–18 and 21–21. The teams entered halftime deadlocked at 21–21, with Webster (11) and Wells (9) leading their squads.

Belzer created separation in the third behind more timely shooting from Wells, who buried another three to take a 29–26 lead and added a second late in the quarter for a 34–30 advantage. Webster scored in the final seconds to keep FCV within 32–34 entering the fourth.

Fall Creek’s defense took over in the final frame. After trailing 35–39, Carter Johnson‑Mayfield found Webster for a clutch three to cut it to one. Moments later, Webster assisted Chase Story on a go‑ahead layup for a 42–39 lead. Belzer had chances late — including three free throws for Jalen Torrey — but went 2‑for‑3 at the line and couldn’t convert multiple offensive rebounds in the final sequence. Caleb Rainey’s steal sealed the Wildcats’ comeback win.

Fall Creek Dominates Second Half, Rolls Past Belzer

Belzer’s eighth‑grade squad came out firing, forcing eight turnovers and scoring 12 points off them to build an 18‑11 first‑quarter lead. Jermain Miller’s defensive pressure set the tone, James Young scored six early points, and Kendle Lampley knocked down two threes. Fall Creek struggled from deep (2‑for‑9) but stayed within reach.

Everything changed in the second quarter. After Miller hit a three to extend Belzer’s lead to 27–16, Fall Creek erupted with a 15–0 run. Dominique Hollowell and Levin Robinson ignited the surge, while Dylan Wise buried multiple threes — including a buzzer‑beater — and Justin Robinson dished out three assists. FCV shot a blistering 8‑for‑10 inside the arc and 3‑for‑4 from deep in the period.

Belzer hung around with 14 points of its own, including an and‑one from Demarkus Whitley and a late bucket from Miller, but Fall Creek carried a 36–32 lead into halftime. Wise led all scorers with 15 at the break.

The Wildcats showed their full firepower in the second half. They opened the third quarter on a 12–0 run, highlighted by a Hollowell three and a fast‑break finish off a Robinson block. Belzer countered with an 8–0 stretch to stay within 50–42, but FCV closed the quarter ahead 57–47 behind Hollowell’s 10‑point frame.

Fall Creek dominated the fourth, holding Belzer to just eight points and shooting 70% inside the arc. The highlight of the night came on a Hollowell‑to‑Robinson alley‑oop that electrified the gym. The Wildcats closed on a 9–0 run and secured a convincing 79–55 victory.
