Pike Rallies, Brownsburg Responds: A Wild Semifinal Night Sets Up a Must‑See Final

Sectional 11 delivered two instant classics on Friday night. Pike stormed back from a double‑digit halftime deficit to stun Plainfield, while Brownsburg outlasted a furious fourth‑quarter rally from Ben Davis in a 77–73 shootout. Two games, two thrillers, and now one heavyweight showdown: Pike vs. Brownsburg for the sectional championship.

Pike Survives Plainfield’s Early Surge, Advances to Sectional 11

Final

Plainfield hosted a Top‑5 sectional semifinal Friday night, and the packed, standing‑room‑only crowd got a thriller. The game swung wildly in each direction — Plainfield dominating the first half, Pike flipping the script in the second — before the Red Devils closed out a 54–51 comeback win.

Plainfield Controls the First Half Behind Smith & Baker‑Lands

The Quakers came out firing, riding home‑court energy to a 10–0 start.

  • Noah Smith scored the first five points.

  • Harper Baker‑Lands drilled a three.

  • Smith added another five with free throws and a deep three.

Pike didn’t score until Isaiah Hill’s put‑back dunk, and the Red Devils’ shooting struggles were glaring: 1/6 from three and 2/9 from two in the opening quarter.

Plainfield repeated the fast start in the second. Smith scored immediately, Baker‑Lands followed with another three, and the lead ballooned to 27–13 after contributions from Landon Gilliatt and Logan Faires. Pike managed only eight points in the quarter but stayed within reach by forcing 10 first‑half turnovers.

Plainfield led 29–18 at halftime.

“They started out with high intensity and we started out with low intensity,” Pike junior Jahari Miller said. “Coach told us we were playing timid and not following the gameplan.”

Pike Flips the Game With a 13–0 Third‑Quarter Run

Everything changed when sophomore Landon Lampley attacked Smith and drew his third foul, sending Plainfield’s star to the bench. Pike immediately pounced.

The Red Devils unleashed a 13–0 run, fueled by:

  • Lampley’s rim pressure

  • Miller’s rebounding and defensive activity

  • Four forced turnovers in the stretch

Pike poured in 21 points in the quarter while holding Plainfield to 11. The Quakers shot just 1/6 from deep and 2/7 on twos. Plainfield still clung to a 40–39 lead entering the fourth.

Back‑and‑Forth Finish Ends With Macon’s Game‑Sealing Steal

Pike grabbed its first lead on a Lampley floater, then extended it when Ian Macon scored off a Collin Washington assist. But Plainfield answered — Smith hit a three, Baker‑Lands scored off an inbounds set, and the lead traded hands repeatedly.

With under a minute left, Plainfield’s Noah Smith grabbed a huge offensive rebound and converted an and‑one to cut the deficit to 52–51.

Down 54–51 with 20 seconds left, Plainfield tried to inbound to Baker‑Lands — but Macon jumped the passing lane, stealing the ball and sealing Pike’s comeback.

Final: Pike 54, Plainfield 51

Difference‑makers: Pike’s pressure defense (19 forced turnovers) and Plainfield’s struggles at the line (5/14 FT).

Brownsburg Outlasts Ben Davis in a 77–73 Shootout to Reach Sectional Final

The second semifinal mirrored the first — an early run, a massive momentum swing, and a frantic fourth quarter. Brownsburg’s balance and late‑game poise held off a furious Ben Davis rally as the Bulldogs advanced to face Pike.

Brownsburg’s Zone Defense Sets the Tone Early

The Bulldogs opened with a 6–0 burst behind Christopher Brandon and Brandon Addison, and their zone defense immediately disrupted Ben Davis’ rhythm.

The Giants shot:

  • 3/9 on twos (33%)

  • 1/9 from three (11%)

Addison scored eight in the quarter, and Brownsburg led 20–9 after one.

Ben Davis Closes the Gap Before Halftime

After a bucket from Chrishon Woodward pushed the lead to 31–19, Ben Davis responded with a 6–0 run to end the half. Senior Sherman Moss assisted Prince Anga, then buried a three to cut the deficit to 31–25.

Third Quarter Turns Into a Heavyweight Exchange

Ben Davis opened the second half with a steal from Jashawn Ladd, leading to an and‑one for Jeremiah Jones‑Murphy, and Moss hit a three to tie it 31–31.

But every time Ben Davis surged, Brownsburg answered.

Out of a timeout:

  • Woodward hit a three

  • Branden Sharpe knocked down free throws

  • Addison drilled back‑to‑back threes

That sequence sparked a 10–0 run, and the teams combined for 52 points in the quarter. Brownsburg led 58–50 entering the fourth.

Sharpe said afterward that “one of the keys was containing Ben Davis’ runs.”

Ladd’s 16‑Point Fourth Quarter Nearly Steals It

Ladd put on one of the best individual quarters of the tournament:

  • Early three to cut it to 10

  • Attacked the rim for free throws

  • Another three

  • A steal‑and‑three to make it 71–66

Meanwhile, Sharpe kept Brownsburg afloat with timely buckets and clock management.

Ben Davis made one last push — Moss scored to cut it to 73–70, and Ladd drilled a deep three to tie it 74–74 with under a minute left.

Sharpe then took control, draining the clock before drawing a foul and hitting the decisive free throws. Brownsburg closed it out 77–73.

“That was a great team win and it was a dog fight,” Sharpe said.
